A Sense of Zimbabwe
Mwenya, Age 9, Harare, Zimbabwe
(based on a poem by Margriet Ruurs)

Once you have heard
The generators running,
cars rushing,
and wind blowing...

Once you have smelled
diesel from the generators,
burning grass,
and food being cooked...

Once you have felt
The soft chairs,
the hard trees,
and comfortable grass...

Once you have seen.
dancing children,
swaying trees,
and the darkness in the city...

I will know I am in Zimbabwe!
