Drawing a New Day
Ingrid, Age 12, Bowie, MD
The sky begins as
a drawing
during the day.
White cotton pillowing into a fray of blue carpet
as the sun
the horizon
in gold and pink streaks.

At night the sky is
a painting;
A shower of
glittering stars
fingered across its paintbrush canvas.

At dusk the painting transforms into a picture
reflecting night’s black shadow veiled under a crescent moon,
a thousand white studded diamonds marbling a sheen of black.
All pieced into one puzzle,
a drawing mural
a painting masterpiece
a canvas of dreams
of happiness, of future, of light, of peace,
Of nature.
