Oooh, my legs are
awfully stiff,
I've been trapped in this jar for too long!
I was taken hostage by a booger-nosed boy
A terrible experiment gone wrong.
He plucked me out of my lovely pond,
So beautiful, blustery blue,
And plunked me into a tight little jar.
All that time I hadn't a clue.
This horrible tot dropped me into his sack,
Where I waited for hours on end.
It took me a while, but I figured out
That this giant wasn't my friend.
When we got to the kid's little house
He took me out of my jar.
I started to run and jump for my life,
But I didn't get very far!
I started to hear low rumbling sounds
Coming from behind my back.
I slowly swivelled my big, red eye,
And I saw the kid's puppy: Jack.
I tried to run but the gigantic dog
Put his paw on my head.
For a moment that seemed like forever,
I honestly thought I was dead.
Then the slobbery titan
Put his smelly snout to my ears.
He said “I’ll help you.”
And calmed my racing fears.
“Climb on my back, quickly, chop-chop!
And I’ll help you get away.”
With that, Jack broke into a dash,
“I can outrun that kid any day!”
Holding on madly I grasped onto Jack,
As we soared back to my home,
But suddenly that devious dog
Took a purposely wrong turn.
With the roar of a jet,
And the same amount of velocity,
Jack, that crazy canine,
Sped out towards an old tree.
I tried to jump with all my might,
But that would mean certain demise,
I just closed my mind, tried to stay calm
By imagining tastiest flies.
After a while the canine bolt
Came abruptly to a stop.
The enormous momentum threw me off my perch,
And I landed with a “FLOP!”
Now Jack looked at me, and I could see
From his eyes shone a ravenous glow,
He lowered his head, and opened his mouth,
I impulsively cried out “NO”!
Jack cocked his head, raised his brow
And looked at me as if I was a nut.
“Sir, you can eat me, gobble me down,
That would be fine, BUT…
We’ve got no melted butter,
Not even any spice,
And actually, very raw
I'm much better served with rice”
Jack’s eyes lit up, and he said to me,
“Don’t you move, froggy-boy,
I’ll be back soon with some pepper.”
When Jack left I jumped for joy.
“What a silly, dumb old dog!”
I thought as I hopped along,
Back to my pond, blustery blue,
I went, singin’ a song.
When I got back I made a vow
To always be on guard,
Because you never know what kind of adventure
Could be lurking in your own back yard!
