A Glass and a Fire
Ryan, Age 12, Dunlap, IL

A heart is a glass.
Not to be broken,
Mishandled, or mistreated.
Though fragile it is strong.

One soul is a fire.
A personality,
It is burning, and unique.
It is not extinguishable, nor should it be.

A heart is a glass.
Glass forged in the fires of a soul.
It is not protected from a hammer.
A cruel hammer called hatred,
That bears its blackness towards the heart.

A heart never stands alone against the onslaught.
Though blackened and burnt,
Every heart has iron reinforcement.
It has the reinforcement of love and family.
