The Mean Step-Witch
Aisha, Age 6, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

There was a girl called Zara and she was turning seven. Everybody said, “She’s not a girl,” because she was a witch.

She woke up in the morning and yelled, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!” and she woke up her whole family. So her brother and her mother and her father all yelled... “IT’S HER BIRTHDAY!”

Her mother was making the cake, her father was tidying up, and her brother was getting decorations. ”Finally!” screamed everyone, “I can have a little rest!”

Then the phone rang, but luckily Zara got it. It was her step-witch. “Hello,” she said.

“Is this Zara?”

“Yes, it is.”

“Okay, Zara, I’m going to be a little late for your birthday party.”

“Why?”

She said, “Because I’m in traffic.”

“Okay.” said Zara, and then she disconnected.

She had never met her step-witch before. Zara wondered what she was like.

Then all her guests arrived. After four minutes, her step-witch came. She slammed the door open. She was very rude. So then all her cousins and her brother made a plan. They secretly put up lights all over the house. The step-witch got out fast because everyone knows that step-witches can never ever look at a light because they will melt very fast! Then they had some cake and some cookies.
