Painting with Words
Anna, Age 10, San Diego, CA
I am a writer who paints with words.
I wonder what I will someday write about.
Maybe nature.
I hear the soft footsteps of a deer walking in the forest.
I see a white rabbit bounding through the bushes.
I want to make this real, and it is my job to do so.
I am a writer who paints with words.

I pretend I am next to a roaring waterfall.
I feel cold droplets spraying on my face.
I grasp the railing that keeps me from falling, it's metal cool.
I worry I will plummet over the edge, but
I understand this isn't real because
I am a writer who paints with words.

I understand that I may not succeed in writing but still
I say to myself that nothing is impossible.
I dream I will someday write incredible novels.
I try my hardest to become the best author I can.
I hope readers will acknowledge my work.
I am a writer who paints with words.
