New Year
Raga, Age 10, Plano, TX

It was a fine morning. The sky was clear and the sun was shining brilliantly. I looked over to check my calendar, when I realized it was New Year’s. The first day of the first month. It was time to start planning some goals and start a fresh year.

I personally think that New Year is a day to forget all about the past and think about the whole New Year in front of us. Right now, all I was pondering was how this year would go—oh the adventures I would have! I just couldn’t wait to see what life would be like! Still 365 days to write my own wondrous life! I rushed down the fleet of stairs to get a drink of water when I heard my mom call me. I quickly made a turn and headed towards her.

“Oh, I forgot to tell you last night, but my friend called me and invited us to a New Year’s party this evening.” she said.

I almost fainted in joy! A New Year’s party?! How could this day get any better?

When it was about 6:00 in the evening, my family and I headed to our friend’s house. We each greeted ourselves with a friendly smile and carried on to playing and talking happily throughout the day. The plan was to spend the whole day in my friend’s house until midnight! Can you believe it? I sure could. When it was 11:00 at night and everyone was tired and worn out, we all started playing family games and watched the T.V for a while. Finally, when someone shouted out, “It’s one minute till midnight!” I quickly dashed to on the T.V. A news reporter said “Let’s start the countdown. 60... 59... 58...” And with at least 50 people sitting there watching the T.V, everyone got involved with counting the last few seconds left for this day. Then, when the countdown ended, everyone let a bombastic yelp of joy and excitement.

All I could say was that today was fantastic! Playing with friends and family truly made me want this day to NEVER end. But when you had so much fun that you could barely keep your eyes open to see what happens next, you really want the day to end and get some sleep. Now, I bid you with great effort...a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!
