Kokil, Age 15, Hyderabad, AP, India
carefully for my silences.
Talk to me, laugh with me,
fill the page with streaks and splashes and starbursts of colour,
but listen for my silences.
When you encounter a silence, don't turn away dejected,
thinking I am bored, or not listening.
The silence is there for a reason.
Press on bravely, and soon you will come to the end of it,
and the laughter and the colouring will resume.
Do this until the page is filled,
from corner to corner with clouds of many-hued loveliness.
Then hold the paper at arm's length.
The blank spaces left by my silences
will spell out a message that words alone could never convey.
