Lost Dog on Silver Street
Janice. Age 11. Richmond, California

It was a cold winter morning and my family was getting ready to celebrate Christmas. We started to clean the house because we were going to celebrate Christmas with my uncles, aunties, and cousins.

My auntie said to my mom, “Let’s go to the store and buy chicken.’’ My aunt called her friend to ask if she was coming, and she said yes, but they were late because they had gotten lost. They said they were at a store called Evergreen. When my mom and my auntie had finished buying the chicken, they went home and started to cook right away. My dad and two of my uncles started to cook the chicken outside because the kitchen alarm would keep on going off. Since they were cooking outside they left the gate open.

When my cousin asked where the dog was, we noticed that the dog had run away because they had left the gate open. We all went to look for the dog. My dad took his car, my uncle took his car and my auntie’s friend took her car. We all went separate ways to look for the dog. We couldn't find our dog and everybody got tired of looking so we decided to go home. When we got home we called everybody we knew that lived in our neighborhood to please call us if they saw our dog.

The next day we all woke up to the smell of pancakes. My auntie yelled out, “Everybody come and eat!” After we ate we started to look for the dog again. My auntie said, “Let's go back home. It's getting late and starting to rain.” My mom was fixing the table so we could go eat dinner later. When we finally ate dinner my brother put on movies we all stayed up until 12:00 a.m. After the movie finished everybody went to sleep.

The next day it was Christmas and the dog was still missing. Finally one of my mom's friends called that the dog was at her house. My mom and my dad went to get the dog. After they brought the dog home everybody was calm. My mom said, ‘’Now we can start celebrating Christmas.’’ My mom and my auntie started to decorate the tables. When they were done decorating the tables they started to put the food out. We started to enjoy our Christmas dinner. When we finished eating my mom started to take out some games for the adults and for the kids.
