Karina, Age 12, Sault Ste. Marie, ON

Come to the West!
Cabot exclaimed
Come see this
Great expanse

Where fish are near,
the skies are clear,
and the wild
animals dance.

They came to hunt
the wild game
and frolic in
the snows.

They built towns,
made families,
planted corn
in neverending rows.

But the country grew,
as newborns do,
and soon the
People saw

A new name,
A new place,
A new country
That was Canada.

As time went on,
The farms long gone
The country grew
new cities.

But its spirit remained
Though it seemed tamed,
A brave country
wild and free!
