The Trip of the Year
Ethan, Age 12, Bruce Township, MI

One of the most favorite trips I have ever been on was to Mesa, Arizona. When I was a young child, about 6 or 7 years old, we used to go every year. But then we stopped when I was about 10 or 11 years old, because of the whole September 11 ordeal.

Every year we go around the midwinter break time and stay for about a week or longer. Whenever we went there, we stayed with my grandmother and grandfather because they went there in the beginning of winter and went back at the end of winter. They spent the winter in Arizona and returned to Michigan for the summer. I think they went there because they were slightly old and did not like the cold weather in the winter.

Every year we would go to a flea market, which was so much fun because we would always burn a hole in our pockets. Another great thing that we did was me and my grandfather would ride our bikes to the nearest book store and buy a book or two and see who could finish their book first, it was like a little contest. If my sister wanted to join in, she could but it would be no competition because she can read a Harry Potter book in about a day or so.

One of my most favorite things to do was play the old Super Nintendo, it was a lot of fun because we would go head to head in all the different matches in the game. Another great thing to do was go swimming in the very large public pool. Unfortunately the hardest part of the whole trip was saying the good bye’s.
