Darkness and Light
Kaleigh, Age 11, Chicago, IL

If you have darkness I'll have light
If only people would still say I'm bright
In a home with too much pressure,
The only thing you can do is measure
yourself to other people.

Or you may want to leave,
To run away from your silent sobs,
run away, from the angry mob
To live in a house, where you can't conquer your fears
It's odd to run away from their strange leers

In your bed, so quietly you lay,
You want to run far, far away
When the only thing you do is cry
You feel you're being watched by prying eyes
Because you can't run away from the truth

At last you will see the sun,
Shining brightly in your eyes
To wake up and realize it was
All nothing more than lies.
