The Magic Leprechaun
Erin, Age 7, Cranbrook, BC

On St. Patrick's Day, I made a mistake. I forgot to wear green. And do you know what happened to me? I got pinched by a leprechaun! But I turned around quick and spotted him. "Ha ha!" I said. "I got you, I got you."

Now guess what I asked him? To show me some magic! The leprechaun nodded yes. "Er, um," he said. "I will show you how to make gold." "You do that by...."

"Where is your magic?," I ask.

"In my hat," he answered. He took the hat off. "When you wake up next morning, your room will be gold."

"You really mean it?"

He nodded yes. But when I got up, my room was still pale pink.

"I am mad," I said to the leprechaun the next day.

"I think I made a mistake," he said.

"Will you try again?" I asked.

"Yes," he promised. "When you cook supper, your pots and pans will be gold."

I ran home to cook supper, but the pots and pans were still stainless steel. I ran to tell him the bad news.

"Hmm," he said, rubbing his beard. "Can I try again?" He thought for a moment. "When you get home, you will have gold nail polish," said the leprechaun.

The little leprechaun rubbed his beard. I must find my magic, he thought. "Farewell", he said. But, when he got home he realized he did not have the right hat! He got the right hat, and then :

Abra-ca-dabra! My room and my silverware turned to gold!! And I had gold nail polish! "Great going Leprechaun!" I said to him.

Then that funny leprechaun and I became best friends.
