Zafira, Age 12, Nairobi, Kenya

 I hear whistling pan pipes
Cascading waterfalls
Birds chirping
Their sounds cleanse my soul
Refresh it from ruthlessness, jealousy, envy
Free it from the clasp of misfortune
The pipes sooth my mind
The waterfalls purify my body
The birds' sound are music to my ears
I lay here, floating on the clear waters of paradise
My eyes closed, water skimming the surface of the aquamarine fluid
My skin turning from brown to bronze
My leaf of life turning over
My nose inhaling the smell of nature deeply
No hooting cars, no homework
No problems, no stress
I feel at ease
At peace.
