Mystery Valentine
Erika, Age 12, New Berlin, WI

All of a sudden it came in the mail. A valentine! It said, "I want to be your valentine! Meet me at the park at 8:31 a.m. at the northeastern gate, on February 14. I'll be waiting for you!" It was signed, Your secret Valentine.

On February 13, I received 11 red roses. At first I got a little scared of going to the park, but since this person had sent me flowers, I guess I could calm down.

On February 14, at 8:31 p.m., I traveled to the park. I saw the silhouette of a tall, thin man wearing a gray hat standing right in the spot where my valentine was supposed to be. The hat seemed vaguely familiar to me. I walked over and stood next to the man. I caught a quick glimpse of him and thought it was just an ordinary man. Bit it wasn't it was an extraordinary man, it was my grandpa! He was holding the last rose to a dozen. Now I knew why my grandpa was the one who sent me those 11 roses and the secret card. I kissed my grandpa on the cheek. It was the best Valentines Day ever!
