Hero
Ian, Age 12, Austin, TX

When I was four, you were superman,
The waves of Myrtle Beach couldn’t knock you down.
You were my favorite big genius,
You are my Hero.

When we moved to Europe,
You helped me adjust.
You ran a mile to retrieve a hat I loved.
You are my Hero.

You taught me to shoot and rebound in basketball,
To me you were better than Michael Jordan.
You taught me to pitch the heat in basketball,
You are my Hero.

When I started football,
You watched pro games with me,
Then you taught me my position.
You are my Hero

You helped me with homework,
You helped me with math,
Made middle school easier.
You are my Hero.

You are my coach,
My teacher and friend,
You are my Hero.
You are my dad.

You always say:
“If you catch a man a fish,
He’ll eat for a day,
But if you teach a man to fish,
He’ll eat for a lifetime.”
And guess what, dad,
I will eat for a lifetime.
