Angeline left her home in France to follow a boy, Stephan, on a crusade for God. When they finally board the ships to The Holy Land, two of the four ships sink and many children die. Many more die on the ships that will arrive safely. When they get off the ships, to their great horror and astonishment, they are sold as slaves. By sheer luck, a kind man purchases Stephan, Angeline and Father Martin… slaves for the Prince of Cairo. Angeline becomes a maid for one of the Prince’s wives, and Stephan loses all faith in God and becomes withdrawn. Follow Angeline on her terrible adventure of survival and to help Stephan become whole again.

Angeline is a soft cover novel suitable for upper intermediate readers. This historical fiction book was written by Karleen Bradford. She is the acclaimed author of 19 children’s and young adults’ books. Some of her other books include Lionheart’s Scribe, There Will be Wolves and Shadows on a Sword.

I really enjoyed reading Angeline, and I found it hard to put down. The topic was really interesting; how she wrote the book from Angeline’s point of view was really cool. I would give this book 4 stars.
