Sarah's Stars

Ted van Lieshout. Uncle Gus's Magic Box

This is a strange story, told by someone with a twisted sense of humour. Itís about a boy who gets a magic box from his long-lost uncle. His uncle has died and left the magic box for the boy. He tries to do one of the tricks, but it doesnít work out. He cuts his Dad in half but canít get him back together. So then his dog, Spoof, helps.

The illustrations have no colour. They are quite different, as the people are very long and skinny. The printing is easy to read, and itís a rhyming story.

I think this book is good for ages 8 to 11 years. I would rate it three stars, just because itís kind of weird.
