When Lina, Doon, and the rest of the Emberites come upon the City of Sparks, they are accepted in for a 6-month term.  In the time before winter, they are told that they must learn how to use, construct, and find numerous things, and be adaptable to extremely hard and strenuous work, with almost no food.  But unfortunately, differences and problems begin to well up between the two groups and are threatening to start a war!  The people of Sparks sometimes talk about a weapon so deadly that the opposition wouldn’t even have a chance.

The People of Sparks is a novel that was written by Jeanne DuPrau.  In my view, she is a fantastic writer with loads of good ideas to put into her writing.  I really enjoyed reading this book because there seemed to be numerous things, good and bad, going on at once.  Although there were always a few things going on at once, they seemed to be spaced out just enough, so you could clearly understand everything that was going on.

I recommend The People of Sparks for readers ten year or older because of the fairly moderate vocabulary.  I also recommend reading The City of Ember, the first book in the series, before reading The People of Sparks, because it tells the story of how the Emberites escaped from Ember.

I rate The People of Sparks a 5 star novel.
