We are trapped! This is the end.  We shall die here!”

Bilbo Baggins is a quiet hobbit that would like nothing more than to sit in his hobbit hole and blow smoke rings. Then he meets Gandalf. Almost as if by magic, Gandalf convinces Bilbo to leave the comfort of his spacious hobbit hole and join him on an adventure to recover treasure guarded by the dreaded dragon Smaug. Along Bilbo’s journey, he must battle trolls, escape from goblins, and brave the dangerous forest Mirkwood. After tiring out traveling across rough terrain, Bilbo must defeat Smaug and retrieve the stolen treasure. Is Bilbo strong enough to complete his task?

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit is a classic novel filled to the brim with adventures. In this version, the original story has been compressed to fit the graphic novel format but still stays true to the original J.R.R. Tolkien novel. The colorful pictures (illustrated by David Wenzel) describe the story beautifully and are particularly expressive. The storyline in this book is appealing and I am extremely glad I got a chance to read this enjoyable novel.

I recommend this captivating graphic novel to children ten and up and I rate The Hobbit five stars.
