Anyways, that was my idea.  If I had the guts to go through with it.  Taking off to look for Tommy was one thing.  Kidnapping my own mother was something else again.  I could hardly believe I was thinking about it, never mind that I was going to do it yet.

Anita Horrocks is an amazing writer; she is exceptionally talented when it comes to capturing the importance and mood of an event.  She is the award-winning author of Breath of a Ghost, What They donít Know and Topher.  If you enjoyed this book of hers I would definitely check her others books as well as her website:

Almost Eden is about twelve year old Elsie and her struggles to get a wrap on her life.  Her mother has a mental disability and is in and out of hospital regularly, she doesnít get along with her older sister, the town thinks that she is turning as sour as a lemon and her friends donít really see her as a close friend anymore.  While trying to start to understand her life she gets herself into heaps of trouble.  For example she almost gets arrested for trespassing on closed premises and finds herself and younger sister, Lena, helpless and being stalked by a mischievous man.  Will she get a hold on her life before it is painfully ripped from her grasp?

Almost Eden is wonderful and unbelievably realistic.  I would recommend it to readers between the ages of 11 and 14, as it has a little bit of everything.  The cover is also very compelling.  I hope you give this treasure a try.

Almost Eden deserves four stars.
