ď Help!  Nyuki is hurt!Ē

When Nyuki first emerges from her cell, she believes she is special since the queen bee laid her.  Nyuki quickly learns that not only does the queen bee lay everyone, but she also has to leave the hive because of over population.  When Nyuki leaves the hive with half of the colony she gets lost on the way to her new home.  Nyuki encounters her fair share of troubles for her first day out of her safe, warm, cell and wishes she could just go back to brainless living. When Nyuki finally finds her way back to her colony, she promises never to leave the hive again. Then something terrible happens and Nyuki finds that she canít always keep her promises.

I enjoyed reading Clan Apis, as it was an interesting combination of fact and fiction.  The black and white pictures are beautifully detailed and complement the story well.  Clan Apis combines facts about honeybee colonies with an extraordinary tale.  I recommend this informative novel to children ten to thirteen.

I rate Jay Hoslerís Clan Apis four stars.
