Onja Claibourn is fifteen years old and has her entire life ahead of her, even if it is going to be spent in a deserted valley. When her best friend moves away, she is stuck with her family and the dirt roads that wind themselves around the creek and the tall grasses of the gorge. Until Etthen, a sixteen year-old boy, comes into her life and he introduces her to an entirely new emotion. One so unreal, that she hardly dares to call it a crush. She knows it is much more than that. As if this latest feeling couldn’t be any more confusing, she finds out that her home could be in danger of a man-made flood.

I think that this book was full of surprises, and teenage perplexities. I found it very easy to relate to, and liked the fact that the characters all had their own personality. The families in the story are like real people, Sheena Koops makes Onja and her sister squabble like siblings would, and she makes the parents act so realistically towards real life situations.

I would recommend this book for teenagers thirteen to sixteen years old. It has some mature content, but not enough to be R rated.

Four out of five stars for this novel! All in all, this book had its ups and downs. There were some places in the plot where I was bored out of my mind. You’ll find that I am not one who likes history facts! There wasn’t much, but there was just enough to throw me off.
