When Skates McGonigle, former hockey star goes north to scout out some new hockey talent for the Blueshirts, he finds that his enemy, Blackjack Snead, is also scouting out the same player, but for the Bears. Tim Beckett, the player they are scouting, is indeed a natural who loves to play hockey but would like to have more of a challenge.  His mother however, doesn’t like the thought of Tim going away before finishing school. Who will sign Tim on to their team?

Leslie McFarlane has written many other books, including the Hardy Boys series.  Based on both this book and his others, I know it would be safe to say that he is a very imaginative author that has the ability to make fiction sound real.  I feel that he know exactly what kind of books kids will gobble up.

I would recommend this book for anyone that likes hockey or funny adventures.  I really enjoyed reading this book for many reasons. One of them is because it was funny, but still was serious and told an interesting story that would sound quite real if someone told you that it happened to them. Another reason that I really enjoyed reading this book is because that it seemed to be the perfect length.

I give McGonigle Scores!  four out of five stars.
