Hockey Highway
Blake, Age 8, Vancouver, BC

In the dressing room
The heater blasts sweaty air
The floor is littered with gaping bags,
Rolls of tape and all types of hockey equipment
The players joke and laugh
As they gear up for the big game.

The buzzer rings
Players take their positions
Sneering faces hide behind masks
At the face off dot
“Stripes” drops the puck
And waits for the first call.

Goalie crouches, puts his glove in the air
A crack is heard, the puck is shot,
And Goalie knocks it wide.
Blake slides behind the net, flicks the puck
And passes it in front for an assist

Preston fires it in
And scores the first goal of the game.
We’re going to bring this game home
No doubt about it!!!
