Laura Sibbie is in Mr. Doyle’s sixth grade class, where clubs are forbidden. But, she has a clubhouse, vice president, secretary, snacks, and a plan. Perhaps a regular club won’t do, but how about a secret one???

Louis Sachar is the American author of Sixth Grade Secrets, as well as Sideways Stories from Wayside School, There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom, and other children’s novels. I recommend this book to everyone, but more specifically to kids aged 8-11.

Louis Sachar, you are a genius! Sixth Grade Secrets is clever, charming, and fun. When I picked it up to reread after several dormant years, I never expected to enjoy the story as much or more as I did in grade four. Sachar uses unexpected finesse and forgotten truths in this heart-warming feel-good page-turner, and the result is a well-worn, round-edged paperback, suitable for any occasion or audience. An easy summer read or road-trip companion, Sixth Grade Secrets is sweet, simple, honest, and unforgettable. Five stars go to this should-be classic.
