Yellow Balloon
Thai-Lynn, Age 10, Elkford, BC

                           She sits on the dock,
Her feet wade in the water,
                          Holding the yellow balloon
You were supposed to give her.
The sun set far across the ocean,
                                Her eyes close,
                              She wishes you were here,
A tear slowly falls down her face.
                              It’s quiet.
Her hair blows in the wind.
                         Three more tears come.
                                Then she stops
                                 And clutches
                         the string on the balloon.
                    “I’ll wait… Forever.”
She whispers and lets the balloon
                             fly free into the air.
