He looked down at his sun-warmed arms thinking, this must be what magic is! Was it really going to be part of his life now? The thought made him feel a little dizzy.

Excitement. The one word that describes how Anand felt when he discovered that he possessed the skills to train and become one of the healers (magicians who live in Silver Valley). All seems to be going slowly during classes, until Anand receives a terrible message from the clouds. Just like that, Anand and his best friend, Nisha, (and the conch, of course) are off on yet another adventure. Filled with excitement, fear, and suspense, The Mirror of Fire and Dreaming is a book that will have you thinking -fantasizing even - about the life of those who live in Silver Valley.

The Mirror of Fire and Dreaming is the follow up book to The Conch Bearer. I found it really easy to read this book as a stand alone, and realized that, without reading the first book; I could still understand what was going on. Throughout the book, the author refers to the start of Anandís adventures but always explains them so even if you havenít read the first book, you can still understand what is going on.

I give Anandís adventures and The Mirror of Fire and Dreaming, four stars. It is a wonderful fantasy novel.
