I Used To
Michaela, Age 13, Saskatoon, SK

I used to care what people thought,
Now it only matters what I think.

I used to care how I looked,
Now if I'm happy, that's enough.

I used to care that I wasn't with the cool kids,
Now the cool kids don't seem so cool.

I used to hide what I believe,
Now everyone can know.

I used to have secrets and whispers,
But now it doesn't matter.

I used to hold myself back,
Until I learned I didn't have to.

I learned that there were people
who would love me for being crazy,
that people who wouldn't love me,
weren't worth it.
