Is the world such an ugly place
that love and joy can have no space
to live and breathe,
to burn and survive,
To keep the human race alive?

Is the world home to such hate,
that all love and joy dissipate
to maim and corrupt,
to destroy and spill,
to teach our children how to kill?

Is the world so afraid
that love and joy are put away,
to hide, to fear
to allow bitter tears to cry
so that children ask us why?
