The Cheater Pants
Isabella, Age 8, Schoolcraft, MI

Once upon a time there lived a girl named Ella. She always got sent down to the principal’s office. One day there was a school spelling bee. Ella knew she could cheat on that. So she entered. That night, Ella ate her dinner very fast. Then she asked if she could go to her room.

“What are you going to do?” asked her mom.

“Just some homework.”  Ella replied. “O.k.” said her dad.

So she went to her room. She took out paper and wrote all of the spelling bee words. The next day she took the words to school. She did her work and went to gym. Then it was time to go to lunch. She had a banana, peanut butter and jelly sand which and milk.

At 1:25 it was time for the spelling bee. Everyone was nervous everyone except Ella. She was just sitting in her chair and whistling a tune. Mr. Fox came up and introduced all of the judges. Then he introduced all the spellers.

The lights went dim.  Then the spelling bee started. First up was Sara, Ella’s friend. Miss Cindy was the announcer. “Sara, your word is school.”

“s-c-h-o-o-l school.”

“That is correct.”

Next up was Ella.

“Ella, your word is Mississippi.”

“M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i.”

“That is correct.”

Time went by very fast. It was now down to Sara and Ella.  “Sara, your word is getting.”

“g-e-t-t-i-n-g”

“That is correct.”

“Ella, your word is playground.”

Ella looked down at her paper. The word was not there!

“Playground” Ella said kind of scared. “p-a-y-l-g-u-n-d”

“That is incorrect”

“Sara, your word is music.”

“m-u-s-i-c”

“That is correct. You are the new spelling bee queen.”

“All of this for nothing” Ella promise herself that she would never cheat again. And she didn’t.
