Melvin Beederman is the superhero assigned to Los Angeles.  He lives in a tree house with his pet rat Hugo. Eating pretzels and drinking root beer are among his favorite hobbies.  It usually takes him five tries to get off the ground and zip around L.A. catching notorious bad guys.  Candace Brinkwater is Melvin’s sidekick.  She always gets off the ground in one try.  Candace always studies math with Melvin in the library so that she can have good grades and go to superhero school.  The story takes place in modern L.A., with some parts set in Las Vegas.

If you liked Captain Underpants, or Super Diaper Baby, then this book will be a smashing hit.  Other books in this series are, #1 The Curse of the Bologna Sandwich, #2 The Revenge of the McNasty Brothers, #3 The Grateful Fred, and #4 Terror in Tights.  And the next one has been dubbed  #6 Attack of the Valley Girls.

I would recommend this book for eight and up, because there is some violence and the fact that it will be too funny for younger ages to handle.

I give The Fake Cape Caper five super stars.
