"Where's Belinda?" Tiki asked.

"Up there!" Frankie pointed.

"And there goes my hat!" Ella cried. "I have to get it!" she exclaimed, and took off running through the crowd.

Ella, a peculiar looking young elephant, lives on a charming and bright series of islands with her mother, who owns a bakery, and her friends, Belinda, Tiki and Frankie. When the Elephant Islands Carnival comes to Little Village, Ella just has to go, and she can't forget her lucky red hat! But on the way there, an unlucky omen arrives in the form of a chilly breeze!

Ella Sets Sail is an adorable picture book with adventurous narrative and whimsical illustrations. It had a rather surreal quality to it with the odd, yet enchanted drawings. This colourful picture book itself is very easy to read and easy on the eyes. It had a very laid-back, chilled vibe to it; perfect for a summer day. Readers ages 3 and up will love getting lost in this book.

Ella is a spirited, plucky heroine and her friends (old and new!) are very pleasant and delightful. Ella Sets Sail is an irresistible tale about a lovable little elephant that will leave readers feeling just a little more light-hearted than before they read the book; younger readers will have smiles on their faces all the way through.

I give D'Amico's Ella Sets Sail five stars.
