Get in kid. We need to talk.

Moving to Lucan from Toronto is not what 15-year-old Jason Stevens wants to do, but after receiving 30 hours of community service, and his parents having to help his grandparents in Lucan, he doesn’t have much choice.  Once there, Jason learns of a teen gang called The White Boys who are involved in arson, drug dealing and break-ins.  While serving his 30 hours of service, Jason begin to get visited by a ghost that had some part of the Donnelly massacre and seems to be seeking something from Jason.  While Jason tries to figure what it is, he has to find out how he can fix his relationship at home with his family.

David McRae was a librarian as well as an elementary school teacher for 35 years. He has only written Blood of the Donnellys.  This book is a bit of a mystery, though mainly it is just realistic fiction.  I recommend this book for ages 10 to 14 because it might be a bit old for 4th graders and it might be a bit young for kids in 9th grade.

The characters were interesting because they all had different personalities and different lifestyles and that grabbed my attention.  I could imagine what was happening because the detail was descriptive.  It was not hard to read because it is a shorter book and the font is a good size.  It took a few chapters to get me interested but then it had me captivated. The story was easy to follow and believable because the happenings in the book could happen in almost any town.  The ending seemed original and it was satisfying because all the problems were solved.

I give Blood of the Donnellys 4 stars.
