By day, Eliot is quiet. He reads his books. He feeds his goldfish. He watches Mr. Smith wash his car.

But when the clock strikes midnight...

Eliot is a quiet, nerdy looking kid who fools all the grownups into thinking he's just a regular child. But at midnight after the clock goes bong! Eliot transforms into a superhero. He skis down glaciers, tows Coast Guard ships to safety, hypnotizes escaped lions, rescues royal jewels from criminal masterminds and he even returns teddy bears to babies! But one fateful night the world's Most Important Scientists declare that a meteorite is going to crash into Earth. Will Eliot be able to save the day once more?

Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero is a madcap adventure with insanely colourful art. Eliot is a tiny bespectacled child with a mop of curly red hair, but looks can be deceiving! He is brave, strong and courageous when he is in his superhero suit. The bright illustrations give the book a chaotic feel and they depict the action and movement very nicely. The words on the page themselves are a bit frenzied at times with varying sizes and fonts. It is a work of fiction as well as a work of art and it will sweep up younger readers into an absorbing world. I think anyone who still reads picture books would like this one. Whether at home, in a library or a classroom environment, this book would be a big hit.

I give Anne Cottringer's Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero three stars.
