Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. The Twig Trilogy (Edge Chronicles, #1-3)

The Twig Trilogy was originally published as three separate books, Beyond the Deepwoods, Stormchaser, and Midnight Over Sanctaphrax; making up part of the group of stories in the same world, from the Edge Chronicles. In this series, Twig, the main character starts his journey by leaving the path. Something no proper “woodtroll” has ever done!

After leaving the path, Twig is caught in a series of scrapes and troubles that quickly get repetitive, taking up almost the first book, ending in his finding his true beginnings. However, after I finally got over being bored by the first book, I got into the story. As the plot thickened, I found Twig to be a responsive character and I enjoyed his perspective on his (many) troubles. Stormchaser was my favorite of the series, as I was surprised by the many strange twists and turns. I was greatly amused reading the second and third books and know there are more like them (The Quint Trilogy and The Rook Trilogy).

I would recommend this series for ages 10 and up.  A three star read!
