I Hear Autumn
Raven, Age 13, Olympia, WA

I can see Autumn all around me now
Even in the dark mornings
The dark deserves my sleepy mind
As I tell myself that I must have woke up a few hours early
I see Autumn when I walk
The leaves of the summer are mostly gone now
Fading from green, to yellow, to orange, to red
Like color changing silly-putty
The creek I used to go down to in past summers will turn cold soon
I hear Autumn, too
My neighbors use their new leaf blower
To organize the dead leafs on that have fallen onto their perfect lawn
Soon the leaves will be covered with snow
Once Autumn gives her hat to Winter.
