By the end of the Second World War, 1,081,865 Canadians out of a population of 11 million were serving in the military.

Day of the Flying Fox is a true story about Charles “Charley” William Fox, a Spitfire pilot from WW2.  In a time when the Germans are trying to take over the world, and destroy the Jewish culture, Charley is just one of the many brave men/women that fought in this epic war.

One reason I think someone should buy this book is because the author has included neat facts, pictures and amazing wordplay in the margins to captivate the reader’s attention throughout the book. Also the author has written an interesting story about a non-fictional historical topic. And finally, the author has given more publicity to a well-known war hero and historical event.

Steve Pitt is an amazing writer inspired by many different things including previous books he’s read, cartoons and comics.  His other books for young readers include To Stand and Fight Together, Rain Tonight and his first fictional novel, Faster Than Wind.

I give the biographical war story, Day of the Flying Fox, 5 stars out of 5!
