	Winter Days Amy, Age 9, Lavington, BC

In winter, dark freezing shadows
seem to follow you
around as you walk home from school.
At home, you drink hot chocolate
and play outside at night
then go to bed and dream of the next day.

When I walk home, suddenly
all goes quiet and all I can hear
are the trees whispering together.
I cup my hand to my ear and listen.
It's a bird! A robin! The first sign of spring!
The gloom will soon be gone!
