They were still a few metres from the stairwell entrance and the smoke was now thick and acrid. Pulling her collar up over her mouth, Jolene urged herself to stay calm in the growing madness. But the panic in the mob was spreading.

Jolene and her family are staying at her grandparents for thanksgiving, when an old family feud rekindles. Jolene must bring her mother and grandmother back together before things go too far. On top of that, Jolene develops a crush on a boy named Stephan, and she finds a time portal to the 1920s where she barely escapes with her life after a deadly theatre fire.

Cathy Beveridge enjoys writing about historical disasters and the impact it makes on society. This is her fourth book in the Canadian Disasters Series, so if you like this one, you will also like to read Shadows Of Disaster, Chaos in Halifax, and Stormstruck. I would recommend this book for grades 4-6.

Tragic Links was a book that was different for me to read. I soaked in the historical-fantasy-modern twist of the plot like a sponge. The characters were so realistic I felt like I could touch them, and I was drawn in by their personalities. The book was excellent, except I didnít like the slow beginning, and I found the ending unsatisfactory.

I give Tragic Links 4 stars.
