The Desert Path
Gene, Age 15, Vancouver, BC

The curving, endless, desert path is one that
nobody willingly risks.
The thick warm air and blazing sun
could drive a man insane,
if he doesnít die first.

Thereís scorpions and mirages every few steps,
with nobody by your side,
fear and poison can easily end all hope
of reaching the end.

And whatís at the end?
Not a thing.

You end your life trying the impossible,
travelling with courage and hope
every step of the way.

And if you arenít alone,
your last sights
are the people who believed with you.
People that,
to you,
were true friends,
or even true loves.

The desert path starts here.
Will you take it?
