No Matter What
Jane, Age 13, Beijing, China

I walk on
through the crunching leaves
And looking up at the sky
I see a bird, alone and confident, fly by
As the sun shines
I walk on
the bright golden earth beneath my feet
covered with shining strings
Through my skin, I feel
The warmth swarming through me
As sweet as
Honey, for bees

The wind, fast and swift
Traveling between the trees
As the branches shiver, the leaves fall
On the cold, still
B o d y
Of a squirrel

Flies hovering,
Gone.

Birds twitter by,
The sun still shines,
Trees tall and strong
As nature continues on.
