I Long for Home
Margaret, Age 12, Barrie, ON

I am far away, in a place of fear.
I would rather be any place other than here.
Back at home, the grass rustles gently in the breeze,
and the gleaming crystal fountain trickles serenely,
Stars twinkle against the inky black sky dreamily.
Each star holds my wish to go home,
Like vibrant flowers, my wish has grown.
For home I long,
My sadness still sings its lonesome song.
