Everyday
Adrienne, Age 13, Coquitlam, BC

Every day when I walk home from school
I see the man
Wearing tattered clothes
Sitting on the edge of the sidewalk,
His eyes far away from this world.
Every day when I walk to school
I gaze at the man
With a frayed and torn book at his side,
Desperately begging for some money
And I have to look away.
Every day when Iím in the car,
I catch his eye
As Iím rushing past
And he stares at me with deep emotions.
But sometimes,
On one of those special days,
I see the man smiling
As he reads his worn-out book
And I have to stop and smile too.
