Weeping Willow
Mia, Age 14, Merritt Island, FL

As mourners by the coffin
and grievers by the wake,
each weeping willow by
the tearful, rippling lake.

Each standing alone, withdrawn
and silent in their grief,
until among their branches
whispers breezes of relief.

Quiet is the change
that creeps among their wings
as soon dawn appears
and the birds again sing.

And the swans again find refuge
'neath their soothing shadows
as beside the weeping willows
the river does still flow.
